Hello, my name is Levi Cai, but I usually go by Veevee.

I am a postdoc at CU, Boulder in ESIIL/CIRES and Computer Science working with Esther Rolf on problems in geospatial AI.

Generally, I am interested in developing self-sustaining, autonomous systems for environmental monitoring and exploration (especially in the ocean). I did my PhD at the MIT-WHOI Joint Program in EECS/AOPE, and was supervised by Dr. Yogesh Girdhar (WHOI) and collaborated with Prof. Daniela Rus (MIT).

I leverage machine learning methods applied to robotic perception and control to enable robots to operate in highly dynamic and unstructured environments. I also develop novel hardware platforms and investigate animal-robot and environment-robot interactions. Previously, I worked on autonomous mobile systems for large-scale construction and additive manufacturing in the MIT Media Lab, and path planning and modular robotics in the GRASP lab at the Univ. of Pennsylvania. I grew up in land-locked Boulder, CO.
